About

What We Do

Dippermouth makes sharp, exciting theatre and education programmes to engage and inspire.

We have staged plays at Arcola Theatre, Theatre503, Jermyn Street Theatre, Waterloo East Theatre, Matthews Yard, and – memorably – in the House of Commons. In schools across the country, and through our partnerships with organisations including University College London and the English-Speaking Union, our education workshops aim to enable a new generation of theatre-makers. Our inventive outreach schemes – including Free First Night, by which performances are staged for secondary school students free of charge – have engaged hundreds of people in the process of making and watching theatre.

What Does ‘Dippermouth’ mean?

Have a listen to Dippermouth Blues (1923):

Dippermouth was the friendly nickname given to a young Louis Armstrong. He gave it to ‘Dippermouth Blues’, one of the very first classics in jazz. We’re proud to offer young and classic plays under the name of Dippermouth.
